COLLEGE CREDIT| WORKSHOPS
This eight-month series of six one-day workshops will provide students with hands on knowledge for the development and implementation of a business plan. This program is offered through a collaboration with the Coleman Foundation of Chicago, Illinois.
The winning teams in the business competition are awarded $4,000.00 in scholarship monies and individuals completing the program receive one unit of college credit from California State University, Fresno.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW Students participate in a series of six workshops led by university faculty, business experts, entrepreneur students, and successful entrepreneurs. Workshops are held on the campus of California State University, Fresno. Students will work in teams with other students from their high school to identify a viable business idea, test the feasibility of the business idea, determine the best way for the business to compete, identify capital needs to start the business, and devise a plan for managing the business successfully.
Students will be provided with instruction, necessary materials, and access to computer labs in the Lyles Center to assist them in the successful completion of their business plan. At the final workshop, faculty and community entrepreneurs judge completed business plans. Scholarships are awarded to teams whose business plans show the most promise for success.

COLLEGE CREDIT All students who successfully complete the program will receive one unit of college credit from California State University, Fresno.
WORKSHOPS Workshops assist students in their entrepreneurial efforts by:

Describing the history of entrepreneurial activity in the Central Valley.

Identifying characteristics of successful entrepreneurs.

Learning about business opportunities in the Central Valley.

Testing the feasibility of a business idea.

Utilizing online CSU programs and curriculum.

Providing sources of information and assistance.

Assisting in the completion of a business plan.

Presenting a completed business plan.

Learning from entrepreneurs is the key to success.
Workshops are hosted at the Lyles Center located on campus at California State University, Fresno. Transportation to and from the university is to be provided by the high school. Workshops are all-day events (9:30 am to 1:30 pm) enabling students to obtain complete information about the entrepreneurial process and the writing of a business plan. College students majoring in Entrepreneurship will assist the teams in developing their business plan as well as coach them in the entrepreneurial process.
