Entrepreneur Mentor Program

Creating tomorrow’s business leaders . . . today

The Entrepreneur Mentor Program is designed to give aspiring entrepreneurship students a chance to interact directly with some of the Central Valley’s leading entrepreneurs.

The program provides forums for learning directly from the experiences of successful entrepreneurs, and includes visits to their businesses, venues for social gatherings, field trips and site visits to entrepreneurial firms and a comprehensive skills analysis test that will enable the student to better gauge their potential for success in their own entrepreneurial endeavors.

Students will be matched one-on-one with a mentor that best suits their area of interest. Enrollment in the program will be limited to a maximum of 20 students. Any student is eligible to be admitted to the program that has declared Entrepreneurship as an option, or comes with a recommendation from a professor.

Each student completing the program will receive 3 credits (ENTR 190) at the end of two complete semesters. Students can use the credits as either an elective or as a substitute for ENTR 155.

Seminars: The program will be structured around 1 1/2 hour seminars. The seminars are led by knowledgeable individuals, such as prominent Central Valley entrepreneurs, who have volunteered in the program as a mentor.
Social Gatherings: The social gatherings give students an opportunity to network with all of the mentors and other students participating in the program in a relaxed and fun environment.

Field Trips: Site visits to other regions to visit innovative companies. These trips provide informal meetings with entrepreneurs and venture capitalists in other central valley locations.

Assessment: Each student will have the opportunity to take the Johnson O’Conner Aptitude Test to provide feedback and insight into the individual’s strengths and weaknesses.

Every student will receive and take a DSC Profile. This profile and workshop is designed to identify four individual behavior patterns with focus on how each person applies to entrepreneurial leadership considering such factors as:

(1) Preferred environment;
(2) what motivates or demotivates;
(3) how this individual handles conflict;
(4) strategies for increased effectiveness.

The students that successfully complete this program obtain the skills and knowledge necessary to enter the workforce with confidence; having achieved new and additional insight into business strategies and priorities.
