Viva La Fresh

SERVING UP FRESH FRUIT AND FRESH OPPORTUNITIES
Success Profile: Viva La FreshThe entrepreneurial spirit at the Lyles Center inspired Brian Santiago, president of the Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization (CEO) at California State University, Fresno to start a club business. “At the Lyles Center you’re surrounded by successful entrepreneurs and other creative people, and that just breeds more innovation,” said Santiago.

The Lyles Center put the club in touch with the owner of Bouquet of Fruits, a local gift basket company, and the entrepreneurial brainstorming began. They launched a business as a joint partnership to provide healthy snack food at the University’s basketball and event center. The Lyles Center offered guidance on all aspects of the business including finance, accounting, marketing, advertising, proposal writing, and working with attorneys. Three months later, the Viva La Fresh kiosk opened serving fresh fruit such as Fuji apples, Bosque Pears, and strawberries dipped in chocolate.

California State University, Fresno's CEO club is one of the few entrepreneurship clubs in the nation to have a business with their own revenue stream. Viva La Fresh is now a model for kiosks in other sports arenas on the west coast. From the success of the kiosk, Bouquet of Fruits now has the opportunity to expand their business in collaboration with the club. This partnership has given the CEO club the unique opportunity to exercise their entrepreneurial skills through real world business. The kiosks are expanding to other areas of the University campus.
